SKAJ for iPhone and iPad · Effective 18 October 2026

In short. SKAJ keeps your logbook on your own devices. It has no account, no server, no advertising and no analytics, and it does not send your data anywhere. The only ways data leaves a device are ones you start yourself: exporting or backing up your logbook, syncing with your own other device, or emailing feedback.

Who is responsible

SKAJ is made by Tuomas Kylmänen, an individual developer in Finland. Because your logbook never reaches me, I do not hold or control it. The one exception is any email you choose to send me (see “Feedback” below). Contact: feedback@skaj.app.

What SKAJ stores on your device

Everything you enter or import is stored in the app’s private storage on your iPhone or iPad:

iOS protects this storage with your device passcode and encryption. SKAJ does not add a separate password.

What leaves your device, and only if you choose

Exports and backups

You can export your logbook as a backup file (JSON), a CSV file or a PDF, and SKAJ can remind you monthly to back up. You decide where the file goes: the Files app, AirDrop, email or another app. Backup files are not encrypted and contain everything in your logbook, so keep them somewhere you trust. If you choose a fixed backup folder, SKAJ writes a file there once a month; it remembers only that folder location.

Safety copies

Before a sync replaces changes that exist only on one device, SKAJ saves a full copy of that device’s logbook inside the app (up to five from the last 30 days, and always the newest). These are not visible in the Files app. You can restore or delete them in Settings → Import / Export / Backup → Safety copies.

Syncing your own devices

If you pair two or more of your devices, they exchange your logbook directly with each other over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth (Apple’s MultipeerConnectivity), using encryption. There is no server in between and no internet connection is needed. Only devices you have explicitly paired can sync.

Feedback

“Send Feedback” in Settings opens an email addressed to the address above, in Apple’s Mail composer. The message contains the app version, your device model and iOS version, plus whatever you write. It is sent from your own email account and arrives in a Proton Mail inbox. I use it only to answer you and to fix problems, and I delete it on request.

Links

A few links (for example to a company’s export page in the onboarding guide) open in your web browser. Those websites have their own privacy policies.

Camera and photos

SKAJ can scan a cockpit display or a crew list to fill in an entry. You take the photo with the camera or pick one from your library, and the text is read on your device using Apple’s Vision framework. The scan photo is never uploaded and is not kept in the app. By default it is discarded once the text has been read. If you turn on Save scans to Photos in the app’s settings (off by default), a photo you take with the camera for a scan is also saved to your device’s Photos library, where it is yours to keep or delete like any other photo; a crew-list photo shows your colleagues’ names. Photos you attach to an entry are stored in the app. SKAJ uses the system photo picker, so it sees only the photos you select, not your library.

Permissions SKAJ asks for

SKAJ does not use your location, contacts, calendar, microphone or health data.

Third parties

SKAJ has no advertising, no analytics, no crash-reporting service and no tracking, and it contains no third-party service that receives your data. It uses a few open-source libraries (for reading Excel files) that run entirely on your device. If you have agreed in iOS settings to share analytics or crash data with app developers, Apple may provide me anonymous reports; that is Apple’s feature, governed by Apple’s policies.

If you back up your iPhone or iPad with iCloud or a computer, iOS may include SKAJ’s data in that backup according to your device settings. That is between you and Apple; SKAJ itself never uploads your logbook.

Other people’s information

You may enter the names of colleagues you fly with. That information stays on your devices under the same terms as everything else. You decide what to enter; please also follow your employer’s rules about what you may store.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your data stays until you delete it. Deleting SKAJ from your device removes its data from that device. Settings → System → Erase All Content and Reset clears the logbook inside the app. Backup files and exports you created are separate files that you delete yourself. If you sync several devices, erase each device you want cleared.

Your rights

Because I do not hold your logbook, there is nothing for me to look up or delete on your behalf; you have direct control on your device. For an email you have sent me, you can ask me at any time to show or delete it, and you can complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman if you believe your data has been handled unlawfully.

Children

SKAJ is a professional tool for pilots and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s handling of data changes, I will update this page and the date above before the change reaches users.
